Business Week of Action 2015
Thrive Business Week of Action Makes the Difference
During May, Thrive held its second business week of action, which saw volunteers from Trafford businesses come together with third sector organisations to transform community spaces. The themed week of action focused on Improving the Environment, with volunteers leaving the office for a day to get stuck into projects which gave local green spaces a new lease of life.
As part of the campaign 39 volunteers from 4 businesses got out and about in the community, providing extra hands and help to community organisations.
On Tuesday Friends of John Leigh Park were joined by staff from Styles and Wood who helped them to clean up and refurbish the park Aviary, which they took over running last year.
On Wednesday G-Force were joined by a team of business volunteers from Styles and Wood & Skipton Building Society for a clean up day in Broomwood which included litter picking, laying woodchip paths in the local woods, planting bulbs, tidying flowerbeds on the park.
Friday was Give and Gain Day, the national day of employee volunteering, which saw volunteers from DWF and Styles and Wood support community projects in Broomwood and Gorse Hill to transform the local environment.
Charlotte Wright, Customer Adviser, Skipton Building Society in Sale, took part in her first employee volunteering experience. She said, “We had a great day – quite hard work, but enjoyable in the sunshine! I was inspired by the work that G-Force do in helping their community and felt proud to be part of it. I would encourage local businesses to get involved – it was really worthwhile and we felt as though we had made a difference.”
In total the week saw 254 hours of volunteering time brokered for Trafford third sector groups. Thrive Trafford’s next Week of Action will take place this week in June, to coincide with Volunteers Week.
