Carer Support Volunteer, African Caribbean Care Group


The African Caribbean Care Group provides a caring and supportive service for older people of African Caribbean heritage who are residents of Central /South Manchester, Trafford and surrounding areas. For more than 30 years, we have been providing high quality, person-centred health and social care to the African Caribbean community. We are here to ensure the well being of our members. We strive to offer our services at affordable rates for our community, while never compromising on quality and safety standards.

We are essentially looking for bright, enthusiastic, friendly volunteers who are willing to help out at ACCG.

Particular skills we are looking for in this role:

Commitment to ACCG goals and values.

Ability to work within ACCG policies and guidelines.

Basic knowledge and interest of the welfare, advocacy and health systems.

Good written communication skills, with accuracy and good attention to detail.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and motivated to work as an individual.

Ability to deal in a professional manner when communicating online, on the phone and in person.

Any additional skills you bring will help us to create a space that reflects the needs of local communities as well as understand and create sustainable projects that will financially support the cost of restoring and managing the building.

You will be asked to fulfil these duties:

Provide information, advice and support to Carers within the Community.

Promote the rights, equality, diversity and needs of a person in respected and valued manner.

Maintain contact through befriending calls on a regular basis.

To collaborate with the Media and Communication Volunteer for promotion and
marketing of ACCG Services.

Promotion of Carer Support within the Day Care Centre and Community to generate referrals.

Creation and delivery of ACCG Carer Support resources, presentations and workshops.

Time Commitments

Weekly basis, minimum 4 hours per week
(min 16 hours per month).

Volunteers will have the position for 6 months (this term can be extended if required).

Volunteers will need to negotiate their time with the Lead Volunteer and Operations Manager or other relevant persons at ACCG.


Volunteers will be reimbursed for agreed out of pocket travel and lunch expenses on a daily basis. Volunteers can also negotiate other perks which might help them find full time work or cover additional costs incurred.
