Summary of the Role
Our Energy Champions will help Stretford Public Hall to improve its energy efficiency and to reduce our carbon emissions.
You will work closely with the Hall’s manager to look at all aspects of the hall’s operations, including the electricity and gas that we use, as well as our waste and recycling, and the goods and services we buy.
Tasks will mainly be based at Stretford Public Hall but there will be opportunities for carrying out research from home. Where possible, we will support you to receive training to help you with your role.
Main Tasks
You will work with the Hall’s manager to agree your tasks. These are likely to include:
• Working with the Hall’s manager to carry out an energy audit of the Hall, to identify opportunities for energy saving.
• Talking to tenants and office users to identify ways that they can help to reduce energy use at the hall.
• Calculating the hall’s carbon emissions using Zellar – a sustainability platform for small businesses (see www.zellar.com).
• Agreeing a set of energy reduction targets for the Hall to work towards in 2022/23.
• Helping to carry out small improvements around the Hall to improve energy efficiency (e.g. draught excluder tape; radiator reflector foil; identifying appliances which need replacing etc).
• Work with the Hall’s team to consider how we can reduce the environmental impact of our events and activities
Role requirements
• Confident with numbers and calculations.
• An interest in building management and energy use.
• Interested in climate change and environmental issues.
• Reliable and punctual, so you can be depended upon to meet the expectations of your role.
• Team player; working closely with the hall’s manager, staff, tenants and other volunteers.
