Helpline, Live Chat and Email Volunteers, TRC Sexual Abuse and Rape Support Greater Manchester

Description:

TRC Sexual Abuse and Rape Support Greater Manchester are recruiting for Helpline, Live Chat and Email Volunteers. All we look for is a willingness/desire to embrace a feminist, trauma-informed way of working, and a commitment to supporting women and girls affected by rape and sexual violence. We provide an in-depth volunteer training programme about sexual violence and TRC, in order to fully equip our volunteers.

You will receive on-going support in your role, access to internal and external training and a chance to really make a difference to the lives of vulnerable women and girls. You will also have the opportunity to meet new people and work alongside amazing, like-minded women.

Helpline Volunteer – Role and Responsibilities

Volunteering on TRC’s helpline, providing emotional support and independent information to women who have experienced any form of rape and sexual abuse, at any time in their lives. We have a range of calls to this service, where the main priority is listening, believing and supporting each caller by letting them take the lead in the call. Sometimes we offer callers practical support and information and at other times, we are a listening ear. You will be expected to fulfil a helpline shift (3 hours), once every 2 weeks.

Shift times:

Tuesday 6pm-9pm
Thursday 6pm-9pm
Sunday 3pm-6pm

Live Chat and Email Volunteer – Role and Responsibilities

Volunteering on TRC’s Live Chat service, much like the helpline, involves providing emotional support and independent information to women who have experienced any form of rape and sexual abuse, at any time in their lives. However, we do this through online web chat. As part of this role, live chat volunteers are also expected to help with responding to emails on our email support service, where women can access emotional support and information.

Shift times:

Tuesday 6pm-9pm
Friday 11am-2pm

Please note all volunteering opportunities are in-person and we do not offer any remote volunteering.

All women coming on board as a volunteer at TRC must attend full training. Training takes place across 5 sessions. The planned sessions for April/May 2024 are as follows:

Saturday 20th April 10am-4pm
Saturday 27th April 10am-4pm
Wednesday 1st May 6pm-8:30pm (online)
Saturday 11th May 10am-4pm
Saturday 18th May 10am-4pm
