Big Lottery Funding Support Success Secures £346,243

Some great news has come in of a major funding award to one of our hardest working and most effective borough-wide charities. Since 1999 Home-start Salford and Trafford’s trained and dedicated team of 100 home-visiting volunteers has given vital, practical support to ‘forgotten families’ struggling with issues including debt, post-natal depression, money troubles, and bereavement. In early summer, bid-writing and capacity building support from the Thrive team helped Home-start to put together a high quality bid to the Big Lottery ‘Reaching Communities’ programme, and in July the good news came through that the approach had beaten off nationwide competition, bringing in a grant of £346,243. This investment will secure the development of the Home-start early parenting support service, bringing tailored support to 285 families and training up 180 parent volunteers over the next five years. Good news indeed – congratulations go to Kathryn and the team at Home-start, and many thanks to colleagues Jonathan Baker and Bernadette Elder at Thrive Trafford for the support they have provided.
