Manchester Community Transport Working Across Trafford

Manchester Community Transport (MCT) wants to encourage more volunteer drivers to support its services, such as drive MCT minibuses. Volunteer drivers must be compliant with all legislation and MCT, where appropriate, will supply Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme (MIDAS), a nationally recognised qualification, free of charge. If you are interested in being a volunteer then please contact Terry Crewe on 0161 946 9255 or 07841 919 173 for further information. Also, MCT has been working with the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation (DMSF) to support young athletes to reach their goals, and as from September the programme will be extended to Ashton on Mersey School in Sale. The programme has recently supported a team of 60 young athletes from Wright Robinson College and Manchester Academy. Some of the young athletes want to compete in the Olympics, some plan to go onto University whilst others want to become entrepreneurs; aspirations many never considered prior to working with the DMSF. Diane said “The support we’ve received from our partners has been tremendous; Manchester City Council, MMU Cheshire, the Rethink Group, Northern Soho, Out There Events and Manchester Community Transport have all contributed to the success, helping our young athletes reach their goals”. Rob Marshall, Managing Director of one of the partners, Manchester Community Transport, added “Being a not for profit transport provider, there are times when we are able to supply minibuses free of charge to causes that invest in our community. What Diane and all at DMSF are doing fits in with our community investment philosophy and MCT are proud to be associated with such a worthwhile programme”. The transport provided enables the young athletes to get to and from Sports City and as far afield as Manchester Metropolitan University in Crewe, ensuring they receive the best training, support and advice available. During 2013/14 DMSF hope to increase the number of young athletes to over 200 from 10 different schools. For further information contact Terry Crewe on 0161 946 9255 or 07841 919 173.
