ThriveWorking together in Trafford

Message From Cllr. Dylan Butt – Mayor of Trafford

As you may have read in the local press, my Mayoral Charity Project for 2013-14 is to raise awareness of and the installation of Defibrillators in public places across our borough of Trafford. I am writing to you to ask for your support by way of a donation towards the project or indeed funding one for installation outside your own premises to increase coverage and help make Trafford a heart safe borough. Cardiac arrest does not discriminate in terms of the age or social grouping of its victims and so the provision of easy-to-use defibrillators, also known as AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) in public places within easy reach of the general public will be hugely beneficial. I am encouraging community groups, schools and businesses, to get involved in fundraising and increasing coverage within the borough. The Defibrillator is housed in a readily identifiable panel mounted on an external wall. It is placed strategically in a prominent public place (on company or public property) for easy access 24hrs, to help save lives. The panel would be identified with the name of the sponsor and the mayoral project. The survival rate is around 20% for all cardiac arrests (without an AED). The survival rate goes up to around 75% with access to an AED within 5 minutes. So the first few minutes are critical until the emergency services arrive. So the need for such a network of registered AEDs accessible 24/7, covering the whole of Trafford is vital. The Mayor’s charity fund has partnered with the charity ‘Hand on Heart’ that has donated 17 Defibrillators for Trafford Secondary Schools. The Mayor’s charity fund will procure Defibrillators from Hand on Heart, by donations made by other schools and from sponsoring organisations and community groups for installation at or near their own premises. If you feel you can help me in any way to achieve this wonderful benefit for Trafford, and make it a lead borough in this life-saving Defibrillator Project, please donate to: ‘The Mayor’s Charity Fund’ or contact: Address: The Mayor’s Office, Trafford Town Hall, Talbot Road, Stretford, M32 OTH Email: Tel: 0161 928 8813 Please click here to find out how you can support the Mayor's Charity.
