Workshop – Reducing Barriers & Maximising Benefits: Supporting Volunteers with Additional Needs

Greater Manchester Talent Match is a 5 year Big Lottery funded programme aimed at young people aged 18 - 24 who are furthest from employment. £108 million has been invested nationally, with 9.6 million of that in Greater Manchester. GMYN hosts the Volunteering Development Officer, Sue Lewis, who is responsible for shaping the involvement of appropriate volunteering opportunities throughout the programme. Sue is working in partnership with Thrive by working with volunteer-involving organisations in the borough to develop the capacity of organisations to provide suitable opportunities.

The Session

This session will start to explore the key benefits and challenges of working with young and disadvantaged volunteers. The workshop will start to identify creative solutions for maximising these benefits and minimising the challenges in order to create positive and lucrative experiences for both the volunteers and the organisation. Following the workshop, the Talent Match Volunteering Development Officer will offer attendees the opportunity for 1:1 support with capacity development in this area and/or opportunity creation.
