An opportunity is being offered to projects within Trafford to ensure it remains a great place to live for everyone.
Trafford Council is making a pot of £40,000 available for initiatives which improve cohesion and inclusion in the borough for people of all ages, faiths and cultures.
The borough remains the safest in Greater Manchester, but Trafford wants to do more to improve social inclusion of isolated and vulnerable residents, reduce hate crime, prevent radicalisation and ensure faiths and cultures live together positively and without fear.
Trafford has recently launched a Community Cohesion Forum, bringing together faith and community leaders alongside public agencies, to understand cohesion in the borough and join up efforts to tackle challenges and take opportunities.
The council wants to promote the vision of the forum by helping to fund projects which:
• bring different faiths or communities together, focusing on inclusion and diversity
• support young people, single adults and families from being isolated and reduce loneliness
• build pride and strengthen communities by encouraging residents to volunteer, using local assets or promoting local activities, or
• create opportunities for people to engage with each other to enable understanding of different beliefs or cultures and build positive relationships.
Joanne Hyde, Corporate Director Resources at Trafford Council, said: “The borough is one of the best places to live in Greater Manchester, if not the country.
“It has a diverse community with many faiths and cultures and we know some people would benefit from more support to improve cohesion further.
“We already know that there are many projects working hard to support Trafford people. This is our way of supporting these groups further to support bringing communities closer together.”
