Local Charity TDAS Becomes Chosen Fountain Fund Charity 2018

Over 6,000 votes were cast over two weeks by you and the readers of the Manchester Evening News to decide which charities would become intu Trafford Centre’s Fountain Fund partners for 2018. The votes are in and from 1 January 2018 the three local charities chosen to be the new recipients of the centre’s Fountain Fund are:

Once Upon a Smile
British Army Charity ABF The Soldiers Charity
Trafford Domestic Abuse Service

Since 1999, over £600,000 has been collected in the fountains across intu Trafford Centre, with the annual funds raised increasing every year. Since the beginning of 2017 over £54,000 of loose change was cleaned, counted and donated to three local causes.

TDAS – Trafford Domestic Abuse Service

TDAS provides services to prevent and reduce the harmful impact of domestic abuse. Our Domestic Abuse Community Awareness Project will support families in Trafford by delivering programmes to encourage positive relationships, increase self-esteem, empower families to take control of their lives whilst also educating young people about healthy/unhealthy relationships.

Samantha Fisher, CEO of TDAS, said: “Being intu’s chosen charity opens up so many opportunities for TDAS, not only will this enable us to expand on our prevention work, reach out to our community, supporting families and empowering people to have healthy relationships, it will also raise the public’s awareness that there are services out there for women, men and children at risk of domestic abuse.”

Other charities which have benefited from shoppers’ generosity over the centre’s 19-year history include The Alzheimer’s Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Breast Cancer Care, Hand on Heart St Ann’s Hospice, North West Air Ambulance, Trafford Macmillan Care Centre and the Greater Manchester Cerebral Palsy Society to name but a few.
