NHS Greater Manchester – Free Workshops – Poverty and Health

NHS Greater Manchester – Free Workshops – Poverty and Health
Poverty is the biggest driver of ill health and early death in Greater Manchester.
NHS Greater Manchester is committed to tackling this and has formed an exciting partnership with Greater Manchester Poverty Action (GMPA), through which we are offering free training to staff aimed at exploring the relationship between poverty and health and the steps we can all take to make a difference. After filling three workshops and with more staff wanting to participate we’ll be holding a further four online workshops taking place on:
• Friday 10th October 2023
• Friday 15th October 2023
• Friday 10th November 2023

Places will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
The workshop is aimed towards NHS Greater Manchester staff and colleagues employed within Health and Care providers in Greater Manchester who meet one or more of the following criteria:
• Non-clinical managers and leaders (including senior leaders) with responsibility for teams, services or pathways
• Colleagues in clinical roles who have some influence over services/pathways
• Clinical and care professional leaders
The training focuses on :
• Improving understanding of what poverty means in Greater Manchester, using both stories and statistics, as well as exploring perceptions of poverty.
• Exploring how poverty is relevant to NHS GM and identifying what is already being done within NHS GM to support people living in poverty.
• Raising awareness of ‘poverty proofing’ as an approach and what this could mean for policy and practice within NHS GM, as well as exploring practical ways to support people living in poverty.
• Using input from people living in poverty to explore how those working within NHS GM can challenge stigma, engage with people living in poverty and involve them in decision-making.
