Trafford Council has awarded £40,000 worth of Winter Resilience Grants to local voluntary and community groups.
Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations were invited to apply to deliver initiatives which help to keep vulnerable Trafford residents safe and well during the winter months and alleviate the extra pressures which local health and social care services in Trafford can experience over winter.
Following much deliberation, the Council has decided to fund the following four VCSE organisations:
Age UK Trafford: £18,259
Age UK Trafford’s ‘Man with A Pan’ project will help older men learn how to cook whilst also helping to reduce isolation. The project will target men who are recently bereaved and those who are caring for their partners.
For more information contact Age UK Trafford on 0161 746 3940.
LMCP: £9,550
LMCP supports the South Asian community and in particular those affected by long term health conditions. From January, LMCP will be delivering fortnightly workshops and home visits to provide advice and practical help about keeping warm, maximising income and reducing fuel bills.
For more information visit www.lmcp.co.uk or phone 0161 226 4632.
Groundwork: £7,958
Over the next year, Groundwork will be hosting events across Trafford to raise awareness of LEAP, a programme to help people to keep their homes warm, become more energy efficient and reduce their fuel bills. Groundwork will work with other organisations in Trafford to make sure the service is targeted at people who are most vulnerable.

The Fed: £4,233

Cllr Judith Lloyd, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing, who sat on the decision panel, said: “The Council is delighted to have been able to offer the Winter Resilience Grants to voluntary and community groups. The four groups we selected thoroughly deserve the grants for the great work they carry out in our communities. Congratulations to all four – everyone at the Council wishes them the best of luck with their individual projects which will help so many people in a number of ways.”
Trafford Partnership have created their 2018 Winter Newsletter to help frontline staff signpost residents to other services and activities over the winter period.
